🏦 From Depositor to Lender Again?
Sharpfokus Brief — September 12, 2025
Indonesia’s new finance team has moved quickly to boost the economy.
Rp 200 trillion of excess government funds held at the central bank is being lent back into the economy through the banking system.
This is a big shift. For years, Bank Indonesia has mostly been a collector of deposits, often taking money out of circulation. Decades ago it was more of a lender into the economy.
This move looks like a return to that older role.
In our opinion, it will help to boost domestic demand and cashflow.
