Advertising that needs promotion ...

First
Promotion has been around forever, but the mediums have sometimes changed. Shouting out loud was first & then about 100 years ago, advertising was born. It began with print & in case you didn’t know the first ad campaign was for Palmoilve soap. Then came radio, TV & digital. This by the way is a digital ad for Sharpfokus Saham....

Overall
Promotion & advertising are key to selling, which of course is the key to cashflow... How is advertising cashflow itself doing? In Sharpfokus Saham we cover 4 ad companies, FB & TWTR digital in the US, MNCN & SCMA, TV & digital here. There has been a slowdown for both, but 2Q growth over there was-4%, here a weaker -24%.

US
In the US, FB is doing much better with an average quarterly sales growth in the last 12 months of +20%, but that’s slowed from +60% the last few years. TWTR has been much weaker & had a sales decline of -19% in the 2Q vs a 12 month average of only +1%. FB is worth USD837bn, TWTR is USD32.5bn.

Indonesia
Interestingly, while Indonesia sales growth overall is much slower than the US, that’s because of a slowdown in TV which is still the biggest portion. But digital advertising here is growing much faster than in the US at an average +82% in the last 4 quarters. SCMA & MNCN also make more cashflow than TWTR, but are worth combined USD2.3bn.

Which one?
The magic of FB is transferring to its shares which are soaring as capital it pays out from cashflow is rising exponentially. The shares are worth 25x the cumulative payouts so far. SCMA & MNCN are also paying out capital & it’s starting to rise faster too, but they’re both worth only 3x the total capital paid out so far....
